An Ikedi ‘Shabba’Igbor’s brace confined Abia Greater Tomorrow Football Academy to a second successive defeat in a friendly game played at Ngwa High School Aba.
AGTFA boys had lost 5-2 to Nwogu FC a week ago at the same venue in an uncharacteristic manner and needed a win to exorcise their demons, but a goal each from either half of the game by Ikedi Igbor dashed any hope of a bounce back.
The home side’s defensive frailties were the very reason they lost last week and same woeful defending was on display yet again, but only this time, the visitors were magnanimous enough to score only two goals. It would have been another heavy defeat for the AGTFA boys had the visitors possessed prolific goal scorers.
Having started the game the better side, Sir Kpor rear guard had AGTFA’s strike force to thank for not punishing their blushes: first, it was Munachi Nwafor , who failed to take his chances in the 29th minute and 32nd minute; Goodnews Igbokwe had his chance in the 34th minute, while Ikechukwu Chibuike followed after.
Against the run of play, Sir Kpor took the lead in the 45th minute of the first half after the home side’s defence failed to clear their lines and Ikedi Igbor AKA Shabba executed a fine volley to give the visitors the lead.
Shabba completed his brace in the 88th minute after a beautiful interchange of play set him through on goal but he first had to dribble past AGTFA centre-back Ebere Ehosim and shoot past the on-rushing goalkeeper Samuel Chukwu to score his side’s second.
